Trekronaa: A Tiny Cottage in the Treetops

A Unique Blend of Comfort, Nostalgia, and Nature

Trekronaa, a treehouse nestled among the pine trees of Ogna, Norway, is a testament to the architect's childhood dreams and the beauty of the natural world. Designed by Manuela Hardy, this tiny cottage offers visitors a chance to reconnect with nature while enjoying the comforts of modern living.

Inspired by the shape of a pine cone, Hardy sought to create a space that combines comfort, nostalgia, and closeness to nature. The result is a unique design that allows visitors to lie under a cozy duvet, gazing at the starry sky and the surrounding pine forest. The soothing sounds of chirping birds and trickling streams greet them in the morning, providing a truly immersive experience.

What sets Trekronaa apart is its minimal impact on the environment. The treehouses are built on a steel frame, supported by three steel legs anchored in concrete. This innovative construction technique ensures that the cabins blend seamlessly into the natural surroundings, leaving little trace of their presence.

Despite its small size, the cabin boasts all the necessary amenities. With a floor area of just 15 square meters, it features a compact bathroom, a well-equipped kitchen, and enough sleeping space for four to five people. The clever use of space ensures that every inch is utilized efficiently, without compromising on comfort or design.

One of the most striking features of Trekronaa is its floating appearance. The wooden cabin is perched atop the steel frame, giving it an ethereal quality. A ramp provides a safe and accessible entrance, making it easy for visitors to enter and exit the cabin. Staying in Trekronaa is akin to a hotel experience, with the added bonus of direct contact with the forest and the surrounding nature.

The project, which began in November 2020 and was completed in December 2021, was a collaborative effort between Manuela Hardy and a team of skilled craftsmen. Throughout the construction process, the focus was on using local materials and incorporating thoughtful interior details that enhance the overall experience.

Trekronaa has garnered recognition for its exceptional design. In 2022, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life.

With its unique blend of comfort, nostalgia, and nature, Trekronaa offers visitors a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse themselves in the tranquility of the forest. It is a testament to the power of design to create spaces that inspire, rejuvenate, and connect us with the natural world.
